That is the bird library — the model that recognises 10,932 species. It is downloaded once, on first setup, so the App Store download stays small. After that Songbird never needs the internet to identify a bird.
Check that Songbird has microphone permission in Settings, and that nothing is covering the bottom of the phone. Birdsong is quiet: get as close as you can without disturbing the bird, and keep the phone still — wind across the microphone drowns out everything.
Songbird knows birds worldwide and ranks the ones recorded in your region first. Check that your region is right under You → Region. It deliberately never rules a species out completely, because genuine vagrants do turn up.
It happens, especially with distant birds, several singing at once, and mimics. Look at the sonogram and listen again before trusting a surprising name. Telling us which species were confused genuinely helps.
The list is stored on your device only, so deleting the app deletes it. Export it as CSV from the life list screen to keep a copy.
Manage or cancel Songbird Pro in your Apple ID settings. If a purchase is not recognised, use Restore purchases under You. Refunds are handled by Apple.
